How you study in Ruukkilabra
Choose a module and start from its first chapter, or from the chapter your class is working on. Every chapter follows the same stages.
- Think about ita phenomenon and the question the chapter answers
- Predictcommit to your own prediction before the results
- Investigateexperiment with a simulation or data and record what you see
- Theory summarythe explanation and the formula are built from the observations
- Applyuse the model in a new situation
- Check your understandingtest what you can do; the exercises are at the end of the chapter
More study tips
- Predict first: once you have committed to an answer, you notice what is surprising in the investigation.
- Use the simulation like an experiment: change one thing at a time and record what happens.
- Open an answer or a model solution only after you have tried yourself, and compare yours with it step by step.
- Do the core exercises; the others are extra practice, and level 3 is challenging application.
- Review by recalling: close the book and write down or explain from memory what you learned in the chapter. Recalling strengthens learning more than rereading.
- Practise in several short sessions and come back to earlier topics later. One long session just before a test is quickly forgotten.
- Mix review exercises from different chapters, so that you learn to recognise which model fits the situation.
- Solve with pen and paper: draw a picture of the situation, write down the known and the unknown quantities, and explain each step to yourself.
- Finally, check the unit and the order of magnitude of your result: is the answer sensible?
- At the end of a chapter, go on to Next chapter.
